racist? not according to this guyROFL Not racist at all. The guy taking a bath was just pointing out how Dopey Changey was all ‘green’ on the outside with his man-made-climate-global-change-warming hoo ha and pure commie Red on the inside. Very accurate statement indeed!
A Bad Cartoon Interpreted As A Different King Of Bad Cartoon.
i want a small bard owl, where’s my small bard owl
In the Mainland Chinese translation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the term “scops owl” was translated as 小吟游诗人猫头膺 (xiǎo yín-yóu shīrén māotóuyīng), meaning “small reciting wandering poet owl”. This was a glaring mistake in translation, as the translator mistook the real-world species of owl (“scops” coming from the Ancient Greek word for owls generally) for “scop”, the name given to an old English poet or bard.
i feel like playing a video game… but all games are awful… time paradox
Q:hey can you elaborate a little on how that comic about the sword murder is antithetical to the ideals of right to counsel and innocent until proven guilty please? Not because I don't believe you but because I don't know. Thanks :) x
it sarcastically implies that wanting to “hear both sides” of an issue is frivolous and/or giving too much credit to the accused in an issue, via exaggeration: there are two witnesses, and the accused’s version of the story is ludicrous; the comic implies that it is absurd to even want to hear what he has to say
"hearing both sides" of an issue is basically the motivation behind establishing the right to counsel, and the idea of "innocent until proven guilty" exists to create a higher burden of proof, on the grounds that it’s better for a hundred criminals to go free than for a single innocent to be jailed or executed
also, there have been many horrifying miscarriages of justice in cases where it’s “obvious” to everyone involved who the culprit is- either because of mistaken witnesses, or planted evidence, or, more insidiously, because the defendant was black and thus “obviously” more likely to have committed the crime
there are obviously cases where one doesn’t need to hear both sides of an issue every time it comes up- with racism, sexism, etc, i think most people have heard the arguments in favor before, and they’re spurious and awful, so if someone’s promoting racism or whatever i think it’s fair to ignore them or not want to deal with them
and i think maybe that’s the motivation behind this comic? (not wanting to be expected to listen to people with odious ideologies) but the comic deliberately evokes the issue of murder, where every case is unique, and the right to testimony and counsel can be the difference between life and death (literally, in parts of the us, japan, china, india, saudi arabia, and so on)
A transliteration of “paparazzi” is used in several languages that do not use the Latin alphabet, including Japanese, Korean, Russian, Thai and Hebrew. Chinese uses “狗仔隊”, meaning “puppy squad.”
